Appley shoots in and gets a takedown into Smith's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Appley is in close to Smith's body, working some short punches and elbows.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.

Smith tries to stand but Appley is controlling from the bottom.
Appley is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Appley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. #REVR#

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Appley is taking a breather. Smith says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
