#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hassan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hassan throws a lazy right hand but Mariner sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.#TD# Mariner darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Mariner looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Mariner works his way into side control. Hassan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mariner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.#SUB# Hassan is trying to stand and escape here. He's got onto all fours but that's just let Mariner take his back! Uh oh - Mariner has got a rear naked choke here! Hassan is forced to tap! It's all over! One monent is all it takes in this sport!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Benjamin Mariner! |

Mariner lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.#REVR##SUB# Mariner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Barreto has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Island Sparring. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Mariner sitting in guard here, content to control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mariner sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Barreto's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barreto can do anything to dispel that myth.#T1# Barreto has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mariner is working away from the top position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mariner is looking to take a break and control but Barreto is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. #SUB# Mariner is trying for a kimura here. Barreto looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Mariner wins by kimura!
