Jacobson is adopting a defensive guard. Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jacobson swivels though and keeps the full guard. #SUB# Jacobson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily. Jacobson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#SU2# Smith decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jacobson, up you get! #T1# Smith tries for a takedown but Jacobson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. #CL# Jacobson has managed to clinch.

#TD# Jacobson shoots in and gets a takedown into Smith's guard. Smith looks winded! Jacobson lands a couple of digs. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jacobson controlling from the top position. Smith working a defensive guard here.

Jacobson with a nice head shot there. Jacobson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Jacobson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. #REF3# The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.#T3# Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Jacobson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. As Smith tries to get set, Jacobson tries to push him back and clinch up but Smith manages to avoid the attempt.#CL# Jacobson has managed to clinch.

Jacobson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Jacobson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. #T4# Smith wants to sweep but no luck. Jacobson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. #CL# Jacobson takes the fight into the clinch. Jacobson is trying to force a seperation but Smith has the dominant position. Jacobson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Smith is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Jacobson stalling against the cage.
Jacobson will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Smith up against the cage. The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Jacobson for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith has Jacobson pressed against the cage, preventing Jacobson from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Smith lands an elbow inside. #CUT2# It looks like Thom Jacobson has been cut. Jacobson is really dominating this fight. Smith is breathing heavily.#TD# Smith is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jacobson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Smith to the mat. Smith regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.#ES2# Smith has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Jacobson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Jacobson controlling the action here for a moment.

Jacobson is pressed up against the cage. Smith has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jacobson down to the mat. Jacobson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. #TD# Jacobson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jacobson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!#ES2# Smith throws Jacobson to one side and escapes! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!#TD# Jacobson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Smith on his heels. He'll look to pass Smith's guard now, I'm sure.#ES2# Smith is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Jacobson has Smith pressed against the cage.

Smith wants to clinch. A head kick misses from Jacobson. Jacobson darts in looking for a takedown but Smith gets double underhooks and turns Jacobson into the cage. Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Thom Jacobson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Smith.#TD# Jacobson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smith manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.#T4# Jacobson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Smith keeping moving, preventing Jacobson from controlling successfully. Jacobson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now. A close second round but John Smith will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Thom Jacobson's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round! #R3# Sloppy strikes from Jacobson. Those never looked like landing. Smith throws out a counter right but Jacobson avoids it with no problem. The fight stays on the outside here - Smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jacobson misses with an attempted mid kick.
#TD# Jacobson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Jacobson stops Smith from standing up. Jacobson cracks Smith with a solid left hand. Jacobson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jacobson is looking to advance position but Smith has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!#REVB# Both fighters are breathing heavily. Jacobson is looking to improve his position but Smith isn't that keen on the idea.#T1# Smith sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. #SUB2# Smith is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Smith extends the arm and Jacobson is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Smith! John Smith decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
