Gonzalez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Gonzalez is working Penny over with some ground and pound from side control. Penny is looking to reverse the position. Gonzalez lands an elbow. Gonzalez creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Penny tries to bench press Gonzalez off him but Gonzalez keeps the position. Gonzalez working the ground and pound. Penny tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Gonzalez presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Penny really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gonzalez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Penny is in a horrible position here. Gonzalez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Penny is squirming around, avoiding Gonzalez's attempts to control the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gonzalez lands a big shot there that rocks Penny but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
