The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos works the jab nicely. Santos slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Shedden misses with a double jab.
Santos darts in and clinches Shedden up against the cage. Santos blocking some punches.
Santos can't get the takedown.
Shedden jumps guard.
Santos throws a big right hand that misses. Shedden looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Santos throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Santos lands a couple of elbows. Shedden escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Santos working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Shedden holds on and takes a little breather. That's one minute gone in the round. Santos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shedden works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Santos being controlled here momentarily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Santos with a nice head shot there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santos throwing strikes but missing. Shedden manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Santos manages to get himself to full guard.
Santos wants to sweep here but Shedden controlling him for the moment. Shedden stands and steps away. Santos gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Shedden has his takedown stuffed enabling Santos to counter with a crisp jab. Shedden takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Shedden takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. That's two minutes gone in the round. Santos throws a good cross that connects.
Santos fails with the takedown. Shedden takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shedden gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Santos gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
