The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Voncarstine will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Anderson unleashes a big counter combination but Voncarstine bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Voncarstine blocks a head kick by Anderson.
Anderson goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
It looks like Derik Voncarstine has been cut. Anderson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Anderson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Anderson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Voncarstine defends it nicely. Anderson shoots for a double leg takedown but Voncarstine sprawls well. He's pushed Anderson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Voncarstine throws a quick counter head kick but Anderson was just out of range. Sloppy strikes from Voncarstine. Those never looked like landing. Anderson avoids a kick to the body.

Voncarstine drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Anderson has his foot on Voncarstine's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Voncarstine works his way back into a safe position though. Anderson looks winded!
That's one minute gone in the round. Voncarstine scoring with punches to the head and body. Anderson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Anderson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Voncarstine controls the pace. Voncarstine working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Voncarstine sitting in guard here, content to control. Voncarstine passes easily into side control. Nice work. The referee asks Voncarstine politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Voncarstine prefers to stall for the moment though. Voncarstine is trying to get an arm triangle but Anderson is defending well. Voncarstine has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Anderson struggling a bit here. Voncarstine lands some shots froms side control. Voncarstine working the ground and pound. Anderson is trying to get back to his feet. Anderson gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Voncarstine working the ground and pound effectively.
Anderson is trying desperately to improve position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Voncarstine content just to control the position here. Voncarstine has isolated one of Anderson's arms. Anderson looking to fight him off but Voncarstine twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
