#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Slade cracks Ruiz with an open hand slap.#CUT#It looks like Glenn Ruiz has been cut. Slade scores with a body shot.
#KD# Slade sends Ruiz crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Slade is motioning to the referee to let Ruiz up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet! A left lands for Slade. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A head kick misses from Ruiz. Ruiz looks winded! Slade throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ruiz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Slade digs a good hook to Ruiz's body.
Slade cracks Ruiz with a right hand to the side of the head.#ROC#Ruiz is rocked! Slade darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Ruiz's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles Slade before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Freibergs tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ruiz swivels and escapes.#CL2# Freibergs drives through and clinches with Ruiz against the cage.
#TD# Ruiz decides to pull guard. Freibergs must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Freibergs wants to control from the top but Ruiz keeps moving. Ruiz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Freibergs manages to get himself to full guard.
#REVR# Ruiz controlling from the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruiz wants to stand but Freibergs has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Freibergs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.#T1# Ruiz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Ruiz stands and throws Freibergs's legs to the side, diving into side control. Ruiz cracks Freibergs with an elbow. That is naaassty. Freibergs is trying to control Ruiz's posture but Ruiz avoids it. Freibergs tries to buck Ruiz off but Ruiz is having none of it.#T2# Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.#SUB# Ruiz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Freibergs knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Ruiz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Freibergs sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Ruiz tries to stand but Freibergs is controlling his head. Ruiz staying calm. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ruiz scoring with punches from side control. #T3# Freibergs wants to control but Ruiz postures up. Freibergs is looking for a sweep. Freibergs being controlled for a moment. Ruiz looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Freibergs should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Freibergs tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ruiz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Ruiz connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Freibergs some visible discomfort.
Freibergs can't do much from the bottom here. #T4# The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Freibergs is trying to escape the position but Ruiz is controlling the position. Ruiz cracks Freibergs with an elbow. That is naaassty. Ruiz controls the position. Freibergs wants to control but Ruiz postures up. Freibergs gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Ruiz with the ground and pound from mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Freibergs is trying to escape the mount.
Ruiz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Freibergs's guard. Freibergs is trying to control the position but Ruiz postures up. Ruiz sitting in guard, not really doing much. Freibergs controls Ruiz momentarily but Ruiz frees himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruiz controls the pace of the fight for a moment.#SUB# Ruiz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. #T1# Ruiz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Ruiz trying to stand up but can't free himself from Freibergs's guard.#REF3# The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Freibergs tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ruiz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Ruiz takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

#TD# Ruiz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Freibergs's guard. Ruiz's corner is telling him to maintain position. Ruiz being controlled here momentarily. #T2# Ruiz postures up and lands a big shot to Freibergs's brow. Freibergs is trying to keep Ruiz in close.
Freibergs can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ruiz controls the pace. Ruiz throwing strikes from guard but Freibergs blocks nicely. Ruiz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Ruiz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Freibergs can do to turn this around? Ruiz in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. #T3# Freibergs tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Freibergs is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Ruiz off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. I would not like to be Freibergs right now.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.#SUB# Freibergs is posturing up here but Ruiz has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Freibergs tries to roll out but it's too tight and Freibergs has to tap! Slick submission there by Ruiz!

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruiz misses with a takedown attempt enabling Slade to counter with a crisp jab. #CUT2#It looks like Glenn Ruiz has been cut. Slade slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Ruiz with a poor takedown and Slade counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Slade feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Ruizs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Ruiz misses with a takedown attempt and Slade scores with a counter punch that sends Ruiz to the canvas! Slade smells blood - he's punishing Ruiz with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Ruiz has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howard looks to land a combination. Ruiz sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Ruiz dodges the punch combination from Howard.
Ruiz misses with a head kick.
Ruiz throws a hook but Howard blocks it. Ruiz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Howard manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Ruiz doesn't manage to clinch there - Howard circles away.

Howard is breathing heavily. A head kick misses from Ruiz. As Ruiz tries to get set, Howard tries to push him back and clinch up but Ruiz manages to avoid the attempt. Howard swinging wildly here.

I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Howard seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Let's hope that Ruiz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. I Pivo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Ruiz throws a body kick that misses. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by I Pivo!
#CUT#It looks like Glenn Ruiz has been cut. I Pivo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. I Pivo has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.#TD2# Ruiz dives in and scores a takedown into I Pivo's guard.
