Woodlard prevents a body shot from Cortez. Cortez throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Cortez just leaning against Woodlard, taking a breather. #BC2# Woodlard breaks from the clinch.
Woodlard throws a big shot that misses. Cortez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Cortez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Woodlard misses the body punch #CL# and Cortez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cortez. Cortez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Cortez is trying to force a seperation but Woodlard has the dominant position. Woodlard tries to break free but Cortez pushes him back against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Woodlard working hard to break the clinch. Cortez swings wildly with an uppercut but Woodlard uses good head movement to avoid it. Cortez tries to throw a body punch but Woodlard avoids it by throwing Cortez back against the cage. #T1# Cortez misses with a hook to the ribs.

Woodlard has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Cortez seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Woodlard can turn it around. Cortez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Woodlard gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Woodlard wants to get back to striking at distance but Cortez won't allow it.
Cortez keeps control of Woodlard as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. #TD# Cortez wants the takedown. Woodlard is fighting it off but Cortez persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Woodlard's guard against the cage. Cortez throwing strikes from guard but Woodlard blocks nicely. Cortez prevents Woodlard from getting back to his feet. Woodlard looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Woodlard keeping moving, preventing Cortez from controlling successfully. Cortez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. #T2# A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cortez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Cortez with a nice head shot there. Cortez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Woodlard wants to get back to his feet but Cortez is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Cortez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Cortez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Woodlard working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cortez. Woodlard wants to improve his position but instead Cortez has moved into half guard.

Cortez throwing shots but Woodlard is blocking nicely. Cortez is looking to take a break and control but Woodlard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Cortez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Woodlard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.#REF3# The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.#TD# Cortez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cortez showed some decent athleticism there. Cortez scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Woodlard blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cortez. Cortez sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Woodlard defending well though. #T4# Cortez missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Cortez is looking to take a break and control but Woodlard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cortez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Woodlard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cortez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cortez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Cortez is trying to control. Woodlard wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Woodlard is trying to stand up here but Cortez is controlling him well. Cortez takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Woodlard keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cortez takes one to the chin there. Cortez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Woodlard throws out the jab. Woodlard lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.#CUT2#Ubaldo Cortez's cut is getting worse. Cortez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cortez takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Nice uppercut there from Woodlard.#KD2# Woodlard sends Cortez crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Woodlard is motioning to the referee to let Cortez up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cortez looks up at the clock. Bad move! Woodlard lands a right hand from hell, dropping Cortez. Woodlard pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
