#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fighters circling - Gunnarsson throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Makoniko shoots in and drives through. Gunnarsson sprawls well. Makoniko takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Makoniko will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gunnarsson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.#TD2# Makoniko closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Makoniko lands in his opponent's guard. Gunnarsson wants to get back to his feet but Makoniko passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#REVR# Gunnarsson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Gunnarsson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Makoniko is working away from the top position though.#T1# Makoniko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Makoniko thows a huge punch but Gunnarsson dodges it nicely.
Makoniko tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gunnarsson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Makoniko is looking to take a break and control but Gunnarsson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Makoniko might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gunnarsson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Makoniko missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Gunnarsson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Makoniko scores with a couple of nice shots. Makoniko looks to score some points with some ground and pound.#SU2# Makoniko decides to stand up. #T2# Makoniko throws a big shot that misses. Makoniko throws a hook but Gunnarsson blocks it. Makoniko throws out a loose jab but Gunnarsson uses good head movement to avoid it. Makoniko rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gunnarsson counters with a lovely straight right hand! Makoniko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Makoniko throws a leg kick and Gunnarsson counters with a two punch combo. Makoniko thows a leg kick but Gunnarsson checks it and Gunnarsson counters with a straight right hand. Makoniko shoots in but Gunnarsson avoids the takedown attempt easily. Magnus Gunnarsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jace Makoniko.#T3# Makoniko misses the jab. Some wild striking there from Gunnarsson.
#TD2# Makoniko throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gunnarsson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Makoniko is in Gunnarsson's guard.#SUB2# Makoniko drops back looking for a leg! Gunnarsson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gunnarsson manages to kick Makoniko off! Makoniko jumps back into Gunnarsson's guard. Makoniko landing some decent shots from guard. #T4##SU2# Makoniko stands and steps away. Gunnarsson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Gunnarsson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

It looked like Gunnarsson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Makoniko ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gunnarsson moves away. Gunnarsson throws a nice looking combination but Makoniko bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gunnarsson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Makoniko moves away. Makoniko shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gunnarsson defends it nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It looked like Gunnarsson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Horrible takedown attempt by Makoniko or perhaps it was just good defense by Gunnarsson, which made it look bad. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Makoniko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. #SUB2# Makoniko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Makoniko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Makoniko with a nice head shot there. Gunnarsson working a defensive guard here.

Makoniko loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Gunnarsson looking for a sweep. Not yet Gunnarsson, not yet. Makoniko working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Makoniko lands a couple of digs. Makoniko is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. #SUB# Gunnarsson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Makoniko defends well.#SUB2# Makoniko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Makoniko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. #T3# Makoniko is working Gunnarsson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Makoniko lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Makoniko missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. #REF3# The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Makoniko throws a right hand that Gunnarsson ducks under and follows up with a left that Gunnarsson also avoids with ease. Gunnarsson throws a jab when Makoniko was well out of range. A little jabbing left from Makoniko on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.#TD2# Makoniko changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gunnarsson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Makoniko grinds an elbow into Gunnarsson's temple. Gunnarsson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Makoniko scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Gunnarsson is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Makoniko can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jace Makoniko! After winning the bout, Jace Makoniko thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
