#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway!#CL# Vargas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. #TD# Vargas manages to pull guard.
Vargas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. #REVR# Vargas working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Vargas content to control rather than advance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vargas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Brown flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#T1# Vargas passes to side control. #SU# Vargas stands up and beckons Brown to his feet. Vargas takes a body punch but keeps moving. Brown will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Brown tries to clinch but Vargas moves away #TD# and Vargas counters with a nice double leg into guard. Brown is looking to stand back up but Vargas counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Brown. #REVB# Vargas with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. #SUB# Vargas is looking for a kimura but Brown is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Vargas to get the leverage. #T2# Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Brown trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Vargas controlling from the full mount. Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vargas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Vargas seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brown for as long as he can get away with. Vargas prevents Brown from getting the reversal. Vargas forces the positional change into back control. #SUB# Vargas is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Brown taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Vargas.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Paco Vargas! |
