and Rice makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rice has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Christie misses with a jab, cross combination.
Christie punishes Rice's body with a nice straight punch. Rice on the wrong end of a nice jab. Rice misses with a left hand and Christie counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. A nice combination there by Christie.

Christie scores with a jab. Rice acknowledges it with a nod of the head. A nice combination there by Christie.
Christie misses with a shot to the body and Rice counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Christie looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. This has been an exciting period of action! Christie connects with a right hand. Rice shakes it off.#T2# Christie throws an overhand right that lands on Rice's shoulder, as Rice tries to avoid the shot. Christie throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Rice's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Christie dives in looking to finish as Rice flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Christie's strikes! Christie is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Rice's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Rice was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones misses with a looping right. Jones looks to land a right hand but Rice moved out of range. Rice displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jones throws out the jab. Jones throws a predictable looking body shot
enabling Rice to counter with a crisp jab. Jones misses the body punch letting Rice counter with a right hand. #KD# Jones sends Rice crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Jones is motioning to the referee to let Rice up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!#ROC#Rice is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! Jones drops Rice with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Rice! Jones dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rice scores with a nice right hand.
Hjelm looks to clinch and Rice counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Hjelm looks for a takedown but Rice sprawls well. A countering left hand to the body from Rice misses. Ammar Hjelm seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hjelm dives in and grabs Rice's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rice pushes down on Hjelm's head and hops out. Hjelm tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rice defends well and Hjelm ends up having to push Rice into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ammar Hjelm. That's going to take a lot out of him. Good standup being displayed there by Rice as he connects with a hook. Rice throws a nice looking combination but Hjelm bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. No joy there for Hjelm, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A little jabbing left from Rice on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Rice is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hjelm doesn't succeed with the takedown and Rice counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Hjelm with a lazy takedown attempt and Rice counters with a nice body shot. #T1# Rice lands with a nice body punch. Rice scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Hjelm takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Hjelm could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Rice checks a leg kick. #CL# Hjelm rushes Rice and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Rice wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Rice is looking to break free of the clinch but Hjelm has double underhooks. Rice wants to break the clinch but can't.

Rice looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Rice is trying to push Hjelm away but Hjelm has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Hjelm is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Rice gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Hjelm tries to pull guard but Rice forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Rice defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hjelm. Rice appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.#TD# Hjelm shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hjelm showed some decent athleticism there. #T3# Rice wants to get back to his feet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rice can do anything to dispel that myth.#ES2# Rice makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Rice lands a really nice looking cross but Hjelm seems unphased.

Hjelm fails with the takedown and Rice counters with a nice body shot. #T4# Hjelm needs to keep his hands up - Rice had a free shot at his head there. Rice scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hjelm doesn't seem bothered though. Hjelm gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily enabling Rice to counter with a crisp jab. Rice connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. This has been an exciting period of action! Rice shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hjelm eats them both and turns towards Rice to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Rice cracks Hjelm with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rice ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Rice circles away from the clinch attempt and Rice counters with a lovely straight right hand! Hjelm shoots in but Rice avoids the takedown attempt easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rice controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Hjelm moves into full mount! Hjelm looking to control but Rice is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Hjelm takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Rice has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Hjelm sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Rice really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hjelm. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.#T2# A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.#SUB# Hjelm working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Rice is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Rice is breathing heavily. Hjelm content just to control the position here. Hjelm moves to the back. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rice covers up after that shot from Hjelm.
#T3##SUB# Hjelm has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Rice is in real trouble here. Hjelm gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Rice is tapping out! Hjelm wins by rear naked choke!

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway!#TD# Small drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Small postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Small has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Small advances to full mount. Rice tries to hold on but Small postures up. Small looking to finish with strikes here!
Small working Rice over with strikes here. Small throwing strikes here but Rice is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
#SUB# Small throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Rice has his hands clasped together but Small breaks the hold and Rice is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Small!
