#R1# Stat throws a chopping leg kick but Sanchez manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Sanchez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stat's waist but Stat gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanchez off to one side. Stat ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sanchez moves away. Stat misses with the body kick#TD# and Sanchez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Stat scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Sanchez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Stat tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sanchez paws at him with a jab and circles away.#CL# Sanchez closes the distance and pushes Stat back into the cage. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Stat. Stat is working for takedown but Sanchez is calmly controlling the position for now.#TD# Sanchez turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Stat wants to control but Sanchez is having none of it. Sanchez misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Sanchez wants to control from the top but Johns keeps moving. Sanchez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Sanchez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sanchez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.#T1# Johns working a defensive guard here.

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Sanchez looks for the body kick but Nogueira Aldo saw that one coming. Sanchez dives in and grabs Nogueira Aldo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nogueira Aldo pushes down on Sanchez's head and hops out. Nogueira Aldo throws a head kick but Sanchez moves out of range.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Nogueira Aldo bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Sanchez checks the leg kick nicely there.
Nogueira Aldo digs a good body shot into Sanchez's ribs. Sanchez misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Nogueira Aldo.
Nogueira Aldo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sanchez. Anderson Nogueira Aldo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sammy Sanchez.
