And Toguchi tries to counter it with a takedown but Avildsen pushes his down on his head and steps out. Toguchi stuffs the takedown attempt from Avildsen. Avildsen gets slowly back to his feet. Toguchi is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Avildsen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Toguchi. Avildsen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Toguchi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Snake Avildsen. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Avildsen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Brooks defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Toguchi. Brooks is looking for the big counter here. Brooks shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Toguchi as he avoids it easily. Brooks doesn't manage to clinch there - Toguchi circles away.

#R1##CL2# Beardsley clinches up with Toguchi and pushes him back against the cage. Beardsley fails to pull the fight into his guard.
#TD2# Beardsley pulls guard. #ES2# Beardsley manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Beardsley is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Toguchi to keep the fight standing. Toguchi goes for a takedown attempt but Beardsley pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Beardsley. Sato Toguchi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monroe Beardsley. Nice sprawl there from Toguchi as Beardsley shoots in.#TD# Toguchi closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Beardsley quickly recovers to half guard. Beardsley tries to roll over but Toguchi keeps him under control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Toguchi passes to side control. Toguchi advances to full mount. #T1# Toguchi is landing with some decent strikes but Beardsley is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Toguchi sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Toguchi has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.#T2# Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Toguchi is in the full mount, landing strikes. Beardsley tries to improve his position but instead Toguchi has taken his back! Toguchi keeps control of the position easily here as Beardsley tries to buck him off.
Toguchi's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
