#R1# Callens connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.#TD2# Michaels closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Callens's guard. Michaels slips nicely into half guard. Callens wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Michaels looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Michaels frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Michaels tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. You get the feeling that Callens really doesn't like being in this position too much.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Callens taking shots to the head. Michaels controlling the pace for now. Michaels's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. More stalling from Michaels.#T1# Let's hope that Michaels has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Michaels with more of the same as he continues to hold on.#SUB2# Michaels looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Callens is trying to stand but he's just given Michaels his back. Michaels has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Callens's body.
Callens wants to get back to his feet. #T2# Michaels is working the ground and pound. Can Callens escape? Michaels keeps control of the position easily here as Callens tries to buck him off.
#SUB2# Michaels has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. A bit of a pause in the action here. Michaels controlling the positon. Callens covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
#T3# Callens is trying to get back to his feet but Michaels has full control of the position and if anything, Callens has just worked his way into a worse spot. Michaels controls the action. Callens grimaces as he takes a shot to the body. #SUB2# Michaels looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Callens taps!

#R1# Head takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.#CUT#It looks like Dale Head has been cut. Callens dives in and grabs Head's left leg, looking for a takedown. Head pushes down on Callens's head and hops out. Head is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Callens with a body shot. Head just misses with a punch to the body.
Callens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Head pinned against the cage. Head gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Head jabs Callens to the body, keeping him at a distance. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Callens. Head swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Callens scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Head doesn't seem bothered though. Callens lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.#CL2# Head drives through and clinches with Callens against the cage.

Callens looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.#TD# Callens jumps into guard, dragging Head to the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action! Callens wants to stand up but Head is controlling him. #T1# Head trying to control but Callens is working from the bottom. Head controls the pace of the fight for a moment.#SU2# Head gets to his feet - Callens follows without any prompting. Head misses the shot to the body. Head throws a jab but it's blocked by Callens. It looked like Callens was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Callens slips a jab from Head. Head fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Callens looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Head just misses with a punch to the body.
Callens tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Head defends well and Callens ends up having to push Head into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Krysto Callens. That's going to take a lot out of him. Head lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Callens backwards. Head works on Callens's body with a couple of short punches. Callens is breathing heavily. Nice body punch from Head - that landed with a thud.
The referee is keeping an eye on Head - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Head stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.#T2# Head lands a left hand.

Head tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. A left hand lands to the body for Head.
Head scores with an uppercut up the middle. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A shot in the inside from Head. Head lands a hook that snaps the head of Callens backwards. Head lands with a short head shot on the inside. Head scores with a shoulder strike. Stalling in the clinch from Head.

Oh Callens is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Callens blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Callens seems to have got his legs back now. The referee is keeping an eye on Head - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Head lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Head lands with a left to the head. Callens takes a shot to the head. A right hook to the body lands for Head.
Head manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Head is struggling to control the position. Head continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up. A shot in the inside from Head. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Head working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Head is pushing Callens up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. #T4# Callens's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! A body shot lands from Head.
Head lands a nice shot to the body. Head works on Callens's body with a couple of short punches. Head lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Head lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Callens to his knees! Head keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dale Head! During a confident post fight interview, Dale Head thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. |

Callens working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ortiz's head.#SU2# Callens gets to his feet - Ortiz follows without any prompting. Ortiz avoids the head kick by Callens.
Callens feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Ortizs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!#CL# Ortiz rushes Callens and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Callens tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ortiz just stands there and leans against the cage. Ortiz stalling in the clinch.
Ortiz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Callens walks away with a smile on his face. Ortiz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Callens misses with a leg kick and Ortiz counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Callens moves forwards but Ortiz connects with a nice, crisp jab. Ortiz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Callens defends well and Ortiz ends up having to push Callens into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ortiz drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Callens gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nate Ortiz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ortiz misses with a punch to the body.

Callens looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Callens wants to stand and escape but Ortiz is having none of it. Callens thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Callens is looking to stand back up but Ortiz counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Callens. Callens trying to control from the bottom.
Callens wants to get back to his feet. Callens is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ortiz controlling the action here. #T2# Callens is trying to control but can't.

Ortiz is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Callens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Callens is trying to stand up here but Ortiz is controlling him well. #SUB# Ortiz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Callens in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Ortiz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Callens is just holding on here. Ortiz manages to take his back.
Ortiz is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Callens. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Callens is trying to stand back up. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Callens looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Ortiz seems to have got his legs back now. Callens pushes Ortiz away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ortiz gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. This has been an exciting period of action!#SU# Ortiz stands up and beckons Callens to his feet. A low kick lands for Ortiz.
Callens is breathing heavily. Callens shoots in but Ortiz avoids the takedown attempt easily. Ortiz is looking to counter punch.#T1# Callens throws a series of punches but Ortiz moves out of range. Nice jab there from Ortiz. Ortiz connects with a good right hand that stumbles Callens. Callens circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Ortiz throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Callens counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Callens takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. The fighters circle momentarily. Ortiz darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Nate Ortiz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Nice takedown defense from Callens. No joy for Ortiz on that attempt. #CL# Ortiz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ortiz will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Callens up against the cage. Callens fails to pull guard.

#TD# Ortiz decides to pull guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Callens accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. #SUB# Ortiz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Callens doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Callens manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Callens trying to control the position from guard on top but Ortiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ortiz seems keen to control Callens's posture. Callens wants to control from the top but Ortiz keeps moving. #SUB# Ortiz looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

A chopping leg kick lands by Callens. Callens slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Oh, Ortiz has tightened it up now! Callens should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
