Nope, Rubble circles away and we're back to standing. Newman slips under a jab. A slow jab from Rubble misses its intended target. Newman shoots in but no luck this time. Newman scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rubble doesn't seem bothered though. Newman is looking to take this fight into the clinch. It looked like Rubble wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Rubble swats away the attempt to clinch by Newman. Newman goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Newman avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Newman fails with an attempt to clinch.

Rubble is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Gonzasco Hydropathy, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Newman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Rubble tries to roll over but Newman keeps him under control. Newman thows a huge punch but Rubble dodges it nicely.
Rubble is doing well to control the position and prevent Newman from advancing to side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Newman is taking a breather. Rubble says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Newman seems to have recovered his senses. Rubble holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Newman tries to pass to full mount but Rubble defends it. Rubble slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Rubble has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Newman has passed into side control.

#R1# Newman with a poor takedown #CL2# and Smith counters by moving into the clinch. #BC2# Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Newman displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Smith throws out the jab. Newman tests Smith's chin there with a solid looking shot. Smith misses with a right hand and Newman counters with a two punch combo. Smith checks a low kick from Newman. Newman misses with a takedown attempt #CL2# and Smith counters by clinching up. Smith with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Newman tries to work over Smith's front leg with a kick but Smith checks it. Smith's coach down at The Jungle Room was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Smith's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smith throws out a counter right but Newman avoids it with no problem. Newman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Scato is not content to let Newman control the position. Scato regains full guard. Nicely done. #SUB# Scato escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Newman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. #SUB# Scato looking for a guillotine here but Newman defends easily.

#BC# Azarola pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Azarola defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Newman. A big left from Azarola misses. Newman bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Azarola slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Newman ducks under a wild hook from Azarola. Azarola takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Newman shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Azarola throws a head kick that half lands.
Azarola loads up on a big right hand but Newman slips the punch.#CL# Azarola rushes Newman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.#BC# Azarola escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Newman's coaches at Canadian Combat Academy have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bashir lands a few punches from side control. Bashir in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Newman looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Bashir turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Hoola is fighting to break Newman's control of his arms but Newman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Newman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Newman scores with a jab to the body. We've been told by Newman's head coaches at Canadian Combat Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Silk takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Nice takedown defense from Silk. No joy for Newman on that attempt. A little jabbing left from Silk on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Silk tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Newman is looking to take this fight into the clinch. A swing and a miss from Silk. Newman looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Silk tries for a takedown but Newman circles away easily and Newman counters with a one-two to the body. Casey Silk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Newman's coach down at Canadian Combat Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Newman's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Meno lands a two punch combo.

Meno tries to close the distance and clinch up but Newman swats him away and circles back towards the center. Newman fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Hanegawa lands a nice leg kick that just misses Newman's sensitive parts. Hanegawa looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Newman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
