#R1# Valdez takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Valdez takes a swing at Tesla's ribcage but misses. Valdez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Tesla to score with a decent uppercut. We've been hearing reports that Valdez has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Tesla moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Tesla lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Crunch! Tesla slams his shin into Valdez's torso. Tesla scores with a head kick.
Tesla thuds a left hand into Valdez's body. Tesla fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A low kick lands for Tesla.
Tesla's coach down at Elite Island Training was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Tesla's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Tesla thows a body kick. Valdez tries to catch it but that hurt him. Valdez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Tesla lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Glock Tesla seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tesla turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Valdez walks into a stiff left hand from Tesla.#T1##TD# Valdez shoots in and bounces Tesla off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.#SU# Valdez stands up from Tesla's guard - Valdez perhaps looking for a knockout. Valdez walks into a left hand. Tesla thuds his shin into the meat of Valdez's side. Tesla stuffs the takedown. Glock Tesla is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Tesla circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Valdez drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Tesla follows Valdez to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Valdez has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Romergo lands with a right to the head. Valdez fails to pull guard.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Romergo. Valdez jumps guard but Romergo turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Valdez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Romergo after a bit of a struggle. Inya Romergo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vasyl Valdez. Valdez is looking for a takedown.#BC# Romergo manages to break the clinch.

Romergo scores with a one two! Valdez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. #CUT#It looks like Vasyl Valdez has been cut. Valdez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? With the fighters clinched against the cage, Romergo creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. This has been an exciting period of action! Valdez is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Romergo to keep the fight standing. Romergo lands a shoulder strike. Valdez fails to pull guard.

#T2# Romergo lands with a short head shot on the inside. Romergo presses Valdez against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Valdez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Romergo lands with a light punch inside. Romergo lands a hook that snaps the head of Valdez backwards. Romergo scores with an uppercut up the middle. A quick uppercut on the inside from Romergo. Romergo lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Romergo lands with a short shot to the head. #BC# Romergo breaks from the clinch.
Valdez seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Romergo shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Valdez is backing up but Romergo catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Valdez covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Romergo Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

#SUB# Cooter looking for a triangle here. Valdez is fighting it but it looks tight! Cooter pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Valdez is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Joe Cooter! Joe Cooter spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant. |
