Sanford working hard to break the clinch. Jewels fails to pull guard.
#TD2# Sanford ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sanford no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Sanford has Jewels pulled in close to control his posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#SUB2# Sanford working for submissions but it's allowed Jewels to get to half guard.
Jewels is looking to take a break and control but Sanford is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sanford wants to control but Jewels is keeping busy.

Sanford is letting Jewels control him for a moment. Sanford is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Jewels is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Jewels controlling from mount. Jewels wants to control the pace but Sanford is squirming around nicely. Jewels throws some wild stikes that Sanford manages to avoid easily.

Let's see if Sanford can do anything to dispel that myth.#T3# Jewels tries to control but Sanford wriggling away. #SUB# Jewels wants to finish this one by submission but Sanford is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jewels. Jewels really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.#T4# Even with his hooks in, Jewels manages to miss with strikes from the back. Sanford prevents Jewels from getting a body triangle. Jewels is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Jason Jewels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hattie Sanford. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sanford shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jewels pinned against the cage. Jewels gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Sanford stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sanford wants it to stay on the feet. Jewels tries to clinch up but Sanford circles away and keeps his distance.#T1# Sanford misses the shot to the body. No luck with that takedown attempt from Sanford. Jewels changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Jewels stuffs the takedown. Sanford circles away from the clinch attempt.

Jewels is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Jewels is working hard here to advance position. Jewels avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. #T3# Sanford tries to free his leg and advance position but Jewels is retaining full guard. Sanford looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.#REF3# The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sanford darts in looking for a takedown but Jewels gets double underhooks and turns Sanford into the cage. Jewels avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Jewels tries to clinch and Sanford counters with a nice body shot. Sanford pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jewels throws a right and a left that both miss.#T4# Sanford throws a leg kick but Jewels sees it coming and checks it nicely. #CL2# Sanford moves into the clinch. Jewels is trying to stall.

Jewels working some strikes from top position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jewels wants to control from the top but Sanford keeps moving. Jason Jewels overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.#SUB2# Sanford working for submissions but it's allowed Jewels to get to half guard.

Hattie Sanford showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Sanford tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jewels wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Jewels misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Sanford is looking for a sweep. Jewels in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Sanford tries to bench press Jewels off him but Jewels keeps the position. Jewels trying to control the action but Sanford is working from the bottom. #T3# Sanford is trying to work for a sweep but Jewels has mounted him! Sanford wants to control but Jewels is having none of it.#SUB# Jewels is working for a guillotine from mount but Sanford frees his head quite easily.
