And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Tryon Tao! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.#TD2# Tao shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tao was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Soderlund (0) vs (4) Tao Soderlund can't do much from the bottom here. Soderlund is trying to escape the position but Tao is controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tao wants to control but Soderlund is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A lull in the action here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Soderlund stops Tao from passing to mount. Soderlund tries to improve position but can't. Soderlund knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.#CL2# Mugshot gets a clinch. #TD# Soderlund manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. #SUB2# Mugshot drops back, looking for a kneebar! Soderlund looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Soderlund looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mugshot for as long as he can get away with. #R1# Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling each other endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive. Soderlund fails with an attempt to clinch.
Geerdes tries to counter by clinching up but Soderlund breaks away and moves out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#CL# Geerdes takes the fight into the clinch. Soderlund slows down the pace here.
