Maldonado wants to control but Hicks is keeping busy and won't allow it. Maldonado is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hicks scores with a couple of nice shots. Maldonado taking some punishment here, with Hicks in his half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maldonado can do anything to dispel that myth. Hicks landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Maldonado tries to roll over but Hicks keeps him under control. Hicks lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Maldonado tries to get to full guard but Hicks has control of the leg. Hicks lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Hicks works his foot free and advances to mount. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hicks lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.#T1# Hicks lands a heavy elbow. Hicks with the ground and pound from mount. Maldonado is desperately trying to improve his position but Hicks has a good base and remains in mount. Hicks pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.#ROC#Maldonado is rocked! Hicks cracks Maldonado with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
