Shitnobi throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Shitnobi connects with a right hand. Sugita shakes it off.#CUT#It looks like Iwao Sugita has been cut. Sugita walks straight into a perfectly timed right hook, crumpling him to the floor! Sugita is in all kinds of trouble here - can he beat the count? 3,4,5,6,7,8,9....10 - he's out and it's by a long way too - he didn't ever look like beating that count!

#R1# Sugita throws a nice looking combination but Alvarez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Alvarez let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Sugita throws a leg kick and Alvarez counters with a nice body shot. Alvarez throws a hook but Sugita avoids it easily. Alvarez keeps the fight on the outside.#CL# Sugita gets a clinch. Alvarez displaying some good clinch control by pressing Sugita up against the cage. A short uppercut from Alvarez. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#BC# Sugita breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sugita throws a sloppy head kick and Alvarez moves out of range easily. Alvarez misses with a hook. Sugita ducked under it nicely. #CL# Sugita has closed the distance and engaged Alvarez in a clinch.
Alvarez's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Alvarez's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.#T1# Alvarez dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. The referee calls for Alvarez to work.
Sugita misses with a hook to the ribs.
Alvarez is trying to push Sugita away but Sugita has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.#BC# Sugita breaks the clinch.
#CL# Sugita darts in and clinches Alvarez up against the cage. Alvarez tries to break free but Sugita pushes him back against the cage.#BC# Sugita manages to break the clinch.
Alvarez throws a jab when Sugita was well out of range. Sugita closes the distance but Alvarez moves to the side and Alvarez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.#T2# Sugita tries to clinch and Sugita takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Alvarez lands a glancing blow to the side of Sugita's head. Iwao Sugita seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alvarez digs a good body shot into Sugita's ribs. Alvarez thuds a left hand into Sugita's body. Sugita throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Alvarez counters with a straight right hand.#ROC2#Sugita is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Sugita tries to clinch but Alvarez moves away and Alvarez counters with a right, left combo that wobbles Sugita badly! Alvarez follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks Sugita out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Alvarez finished him against the cage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Eddie Alvarez! In his post fight interview, Eddie Alvarez started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception. |
