Good standup being displayed there by Obrenovic as he connects with a hook.#CL# Obrenovic closes the distance and clinches.#TD2# Quato successfully pulls guard.
Quato keeping moving, preventing Obrenovic from controlling successfully. Quato is trying to hold Obrenovic in close to prevent damage but Obrenovic has managed to pass into half guard.

#R1# Owen throws a left and a right that both miss
#TD# and Quato counters with a single leg into guard. Owen didn't expect that. Quato trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Owen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Quato is controlling him. Quato definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Quato throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Owen works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Quato postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Quato accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Quato's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Owen is looking to stand up but Quato isn't so interested in that idea. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quato is looking to work some ground and pound but Owen has wrist control. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Quato's corner. Quato has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Owen tries to escape but Quato is in control. Owen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. #SUB# Quato thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Owen is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Quato is controlling him well. Quato working the head and body with strikes. Owen parries the strikes from Quato easily there. Quato is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Owen to escape.
Owen felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. An elbow from Quato crashes against the mat.
Quato wants to lay and pray for a moment but Owen keeps working. Owen tries to escape but Quato is in control. Quato works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Owen dodges the ground and pound from Quato. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Owen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Quato asserts his dominance and retains side control. Quato is chipping away with strikes.

Owen is trying to escape and get back to his feet.#T4# Quato is putting a hurting on Owen here, landing some big shots from side control. Owen is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Quato has just dragged him back down to the mat. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.#SUB# Quato is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Owen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Owen is trying to break the clinch but Quato has him pressed against the cage. #TD# Quato ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Quato no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. #SUB# Quato has his feet on Owen's thighs here. He's pushed Owen off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Owen screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

#R1# Rice throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rice is defended easily by Quato. Quato was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Quato just misses with a punch to the body.
Quato jabbing away but nothing is landing. Rice throws out a counter right but Quato avoids it with no problem. Quato seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Quato Quato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rice needs to keep his hands up - Quato had a free shot at his head there. Rice ducks under a wild hook from Quato. Quato misses with an uppercut. Quato lands a nice shot to the body.

Quato cracks Rice with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Rice falls to his knees and Quato doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

#R1# Quato defending well as O War loads up on a big left hand. Quato lands a two punch combo.
A jab from O War misses. A counter left hand to the body from Quato misses its target. Decent striking displayed by Quato there. Quato cracks O War with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends O War tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Quato pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! O War is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Quato Quato! During a confident post fight interview, Quato Quato thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. |
