#CL2# Cartagena has closed the distance and engaged Strijk in a clinch.
Strijk tries to break the clinch but Cartagena is controlling the position. Come on Cartagena - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Strijk is trying to pull guard but Cartagena turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.#TD2# Cartagena gets control of Strijk's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cartagena will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Cartagena has Strijk pulled in close to control his posture. #SUB2# Cartagena throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Strijk with a flurry of punches that miss. Strijk wants to control from the top but Cartagena keeps moving. #T1##ES2# Cartagena pushes Strijk off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Cartagena tries to work over Strijk's front leg with a kick but Strijk checks it. Cartagena swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Strijk counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cartagena's knee momentarily. Strijk misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
#CL2# Cartagena clinches up with Strijk and pushes him back against the cage. Cartagena has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Strijk is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Strijk missing with knees to the body.
#TD2# Cartagena pulls guard effortlessly. Strijk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cartagena swivels though and keeps the full guard. Strijk is fighting to break Cartagena's control of his arms but Cartagena is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Cartagena bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Strijk's guard. #REVB##T2# Strijk not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Strijk lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.#REVR# The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Strijk tries to stand but Cartagena is controlling from the bottom. Cartagena seems keen to control Strijk's posture.#SUB2# Cartagena escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Strijk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Strijk pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cartagena is keeping the position for now. #T3# Strijk trying to control the position from guard on top but Cartagena is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cartagena bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Strijk's guard. #REVB# Strijk wants to stand but Cartagena is controlling the position. #SUB# Strijk looking for a guillotine here but Cartagena defends easily.
#SUB2# Cartagena is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Cartagena looks winded!#T4# A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.#SUB# Strijk had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cartagena defends it easily. Cartagena lands a couple of elbows. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Strijk wants to sweep here but Cartagena controlling him for the moment. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Pierre Cartagena dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.#R2# Cartagena tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strijk swivels and escapes. Strijk throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
#CUT#It looks like Pierre Cartagena has been cut. Strijk keeps Cartagena at a distance using the push kick. #CL2# Cartagena moves into range and clinches up with Strijk. Strijk blocks an elbow strike from Cartagena.
A short body shot lands from Cartagena as the two fighters clinch.
Strijk tries to pull guard but Cartagena won't allow it.
#TD2# Cartagena turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Cartagena manages to end up in side control. Strijk is looking to regain half guard here but Cartagena keeps moving and retains side control. Strijk manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cartagena's best efforts. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The fighters are battling for position here. Strijk manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Strijk is trying to keep Cartagena in close.
#T1# Strijk wants to sweep but no luck. Strijk working a defensive guard here.
Cartagena controls from within his opponent's guard. Strijk wants to stand and escape but Cartagena is having none of it. #REF3# The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.#T2# The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Strijk lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Cartagena has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Strijk with the inside leg kick. Arysth Strijk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Strijk throws a head kick that misses. Pierre Cartagena is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Cartagena moves out of range as Strijk throws a body kick.
And Cartagena tries to counter it with a takedown but Strijk pushes his down on his head and steps out. Strijk throws a head kick that Cartagena semi-blocks.
Cartagena misses with a takedown attempt - Strijk sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Cartagena throws an overhand right that lands on Strijk's shoulder, as Strijk tries to avoid the shot. Cartagena is breathing heavily.#CL2# Cartagena forces Strijk back against the cage and clinches.#BC2# Cartagena breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A head kick from Strijk lands but Cartagena takes it in his stride. Strijk lands a high kick!
Cartagena shoots for a double leg takedown but Strijk sprawls well. He's pushed Cartagena's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Arysth Strijk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pierre Cartagena.#T3##KD# Strijk lands a big head kick that sends Cartagena tumbling to the mat! Strijk takes a step backwards and waves Cartagena back to his feet - he wants the finish!#ROC#Cartagena is rocked! Cartagena gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Arysth Strijk! Arysth Strijk spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant. |
