A momentary lapse in concentration from Mathis enables Ekberg to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mathis manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Ekberg trying to control the position from guard on top but Mathis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ekberg is pushing down on Mathis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mathis is fighting to maintain full guard but Ekberg has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ekberg is trying to control the action in half guard but Mathis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mathis shoots in but no luck this time.
Juarez throws a leg kick which misses Mathis's front leg but catches the back leg as Mathis tries to avoid it.
Juarez throws a series of punches but Mathis avoids them all with ease.
A combination from Juarez does no damage.
Mathis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.#TD2#
Juarez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mathis on his heels. He'll look to pass Mathis's guard now, I'm sure.

Shlat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shlat wants it to stay on the feet.
Shlat misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Shlat looks winded!
Shlat avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mathis looks for a takedown but Shlat sprawls well.
Mathis moves in looking to clinch but Shlat pushes him off.
Mathis shoots in for a takedown but Shlat shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Demarion Mathis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Demarion Mathis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mathis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shlat's waist but Shlat gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mathis off to one side.

Shlat is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Demarion Mathis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.

Mathis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Mathis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Kowalski isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mathis stacks Kowalski on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mathis!
