Everett manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Escobar tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Smith is trying to force a seperation but Escobar has the dominant position. Smith is trying to break free. Escobar working Smith over with knees to the body. Escobar tries for a takedown. No joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Escobar jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Escobar gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pedro Escobar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Escobar wants to clinch but Smith slips to the side and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Escobar backing up. Escobar nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes. Escobar tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A jab lands there for Smith. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Escobar closes the distance looking to clinch and Smith counters with a lovely straight right hand!#T1# Smith cracks Escobar with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Decent striking displayed by Smith there. Smith lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Smith is trying to break free. I was talking to Escobar's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Good body shot from Escobar.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.#T2# Escobar lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Smith backwards. Escobar fails to pull guard.

Escobar is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Smith is controlling him. Escobar utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. #T3# Escobar wants to stand up but Smith is controlling him. Escobar on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Escobar tries to get out of the position. Escobar seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Escobar wants to control but Smith passes easily into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#T4# A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Escobar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Escobar is not content to let Smith control the position. Smith has control of an arm but Escobar manages to advance to Smith's back! Escobar lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Good control from Escobar. Escobar is trying to control but Smith is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ruben Smith will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!#R2# Escobar tries to clinch up and Smith connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off. Escobar tries for a takedown but Smith sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Smith looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Escobar takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Escobar walks into a straight right hand from Smith. Escobar tries to clinch up. Smith displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Escobar moves away from the strike by Smith. Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Escobar gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Escobar takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
