#R1# Stroganov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cuervo.
A telegraphed right hand from Cuervo misses the target. #TD# Stroganov looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cuervo! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Stroganov scores with a couple of short elbows. Cuervo is trying to improve his position. Stroganov lands a few punches from side control. Stroganov working the ground and pound. Stroganov lands a nice forearm strike. Cuervo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Cuervo takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cuervo wants to control but Stroganov postures up. Cuervo is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Stroganov is staying active. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cuervo takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Stroganov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cuervo on the ground. Stroganov connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cuervo some visible discomfort.
#T1# Cuervo is not in a great position here, taking some shots. #ROC#Cuervo is rocked! Stroganov is working Cuervo over with some ground and pound from side control. Cuervo is still in real trouble! Can Stroganov finish him? A big shot lands for Stroganov! That's hurt Cuervo! Will he recover? Stroganov fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Viktor Stroganov tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool. Jose Cuervo was interviewed post fight and said 'I don't think i would be as happy as him knowing everyone thought i was gay. I would love a rematch so nobody thinks I just lost to a faggot. Dana white paid me off so he would win. Forgive me, I just don't make enough as a fighter and my moms rent keeps going up.'. |

#R1# Santos tries to clinch up but Cuervo circles away and keeps his distance. Santos moves out of range of the strikes. Cuervo misses with a body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cuervo. Santos does a little dance to reset his feet. Santos throws a big counter combination but Cuervo scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Santos uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cuervo. Santos tries to close the distance and clinch but Cuervo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Santos throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cuervo.#TD# Cuervo gets caught napping as Santos dives in and scores a takedown. Cuervo manages to retain guard. Cuervo keeping moving, preventing Santos from controlling successfully. Our spies down at at Alpha Brasil inform us that Cuervo has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Santos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cuervo swivels though and keeps the full guard. Santos scoring with some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#SUB2# Cuervo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cuervo is trying to keep Santos in close.

Santos trying to control the action but Cuervo is working from the bottom. #SU# Santos postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Cuervo to stand up. Santos doesn't succeed with the takedown and Cuervo counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Cuervo misses the shot to the body. #TD# Santos drives through with a takedown into guard. #T2# Santos keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cuervo's head. Santos trying to control but Cuervo is working from the bottom. Santos throwing strikes but missing. #SUB2# Santos lying in Cuervo's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Cuervo decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Santos taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jose Cuervo! A very excited looking Jose Cuervo rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed. |

#R1# Gomes is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Gomes gets off balance looking for a body kick#TD2# and Cuervo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Cuervo is nestled in close to Gomes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Cuervo passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gomes! Cuervo postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Gomes badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Cuervo around the waist but Cuervo pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Cuervo is the winner by TKO! Cuervo jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

#R1# Cuervo throws a shot from downtown. Santos moves away and avoids it. A big right from Cuervo misses. Santos uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cuervo. Cuervo misses with a wild body shot. #CL# Santos rushes Cuervo and presses him up against the cage.#TD# Santos decides to pull guard. #SUB# Santos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cuervo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Cuervo throws a big right hand that misses. Santos keeping moving, preventing Cuervo from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Santos is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Santos looking for a sweep. Not yet Santos, not yet. Cuervo postures up and lands a big shot to Santos's brow. #T1# Cuervo postures up.

Santos sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Cuervo slips a nice elbow through Santos's hands, connecting with Santos's forehead. Cuervo controlling the pace. Santos wants to get back to full guard. Santos gets full guard. Cuervo wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santos is trying to control the position but Cuervo postures up. #T2# Cuervo cracks Santos with a solid left hand.#SUB# Santos looking for subs off his back but Cuervo has passed one foot through into half guard.
Santos is breathing heavily. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Cuervo trying to pass the guard but Santos defending well. Cuervo seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Santos is trying to get back to full guard. Cuervo is looking to take a break and control but Santos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cuervo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.#T3# Cuervo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Cuervo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Santos with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. #ROC2#Santos is rocked! Cuervo content to control rather than advance. Oh Santos is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Cuervo lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Santos quite badly. Santos pulls Cuervo in close trying to recover. Cuervo postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Santos on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Santos doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Cuervo! A less than humble Jose Cuervo misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities. |
