Tovar shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Avila napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Tovar is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tovar is staying tight to Avila's torso, preventing him from escaping.
It looks like Tovar might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Tovar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tovar lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Avila down.

Tovar is working to tighten his grip on Avila's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Avila has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Tovar is really squeezing tight and eventually Avila passes out! Tovar breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
