Melendez shoots in looking for a takedown but Barren manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Melendez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Barren looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Barren misses with a double jab.
Melendez seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Melendez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Melendez takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
The fight stays on the outside here - Barren looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Barren throws a push kick but Melendez slaps the foot to one side.
Barren closes the distance but Melendez moves to the side
and Melendez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Barren has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Gates takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
