#R1##TD2# Varleansavage looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Varleansavage working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Oumardipov flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Varleansavage scoring with strikes to the body and head. #SUB# Oumardipov actively working from the bottom here. Oumardipov misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Oumardipov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Oumardipov is trying to control but can't.
Oumardipov moves into full guard.
Oumardipov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.#SUB# Oumardipov looking for a triangle here. Varleansavage is fighting it but it looks tight! Oumardipov pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Varleansavage is tapping out - this one is all over!

#R1# Varleansavage moves forwards but Malis connects with a nice, crisp jab. Bark Malis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.#TD2# Varleansavage drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Malis kicks Varleansavage off and gets to his feet. #TD2# Varleansavage manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Malis on his heels. He'll look to pass Malis's guard now, I'm sure. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Varleansavage loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Malis wants to stand up but Varleansavage is controlling him. Varleansavage is in close to Malis's body, working some short punches and elbows. Varleansavage trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Varleansavage lands a couple of digs. Malis has momentary wrist control but Varleansavage slips an elbow through the middle. Varleansavage stops Malis from standing up. Varleansavage trying to control but Malis is working from the bottom. Malis is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Varleansavage is controlling him. #T1# Varleansavage gets to his feet and stands over Malis, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Malis felt that one! Varleansavage unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Malis from any more punishment!

#R1##CL2# Anderson rushes Varleansavage and presses him up against the cage. A short body shot lands from Varleansavage as the two fighters clinch.
Varleansavage lands a good knee to the midsection. Anderson won't want to take too many of those. Anderson is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. A bit of stalling here from Varleansavage.
#TD# Varleansavage turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Varleansavage lands an elbow. #CUT#It looks like Popeye Anderson has been cut. Anderson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
#CUT#That has opened up Popeye Anderson's cut even more.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Popeye Anderson's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ripaul Varleansavage! After the fight, Ripaul Varleansavage was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. |
