#R1# Lam takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Lam has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.#TD2# Lam drives through with a takedown into Gupta's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Lam is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#SUB2# Lam is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Lam controls from within his opponent's guard. #T1# Lam won't allow Gupta to get back to his feet. Lam slips nicely into half guard.#SUB2# Lam wants to work for an arm triangle but Gupta is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lam looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. It looks like Lam might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.#T2# Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.#SUB2# Lam is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. #SUB2# Lam is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gupta sees it coming and defends easily.#SUB2# Lam is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
#T3##SUB2# Lam maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Gupta could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Lam has cracked it and Gupta is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Lam!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Lorenzo Lam! |
