Manuel De Haza had a rough upbringing in the Dominican Republic. He was known as a fearless thug in his hometown of Santo Domingo. He was constantly getting into fights so his father suggested he try out boxing. After years of practice, Manuel became to be known as the best boxer the country had to offer. Three straight victories as an amateur and he was qualified to enter the Olympics. He soon met Noel Mercado, a MMA manager who convinced him to fly to Sydney and pursue a career in the sport.
