Lieutenant Douglas MacArthur, aka Fighting Jack Mac was a Scottish Army officer who fought throughout the Second World War armed with a longbow, bagpipes, and a basket-hilted Scottish broadsword. He led the vanguard blowing his pipes at first. "A glorious display it was, as he threw his bagpipes aside and drew his bow. Striking here and there, surrounded by cannons and gunfire he led his troops into battle like king. Finally, when it came to close combat, he drew his sword. What a site for all! |
