I was talking to Venator's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. McQueen has a couple of punches blocked by Venator.

#R1##TD# Alvarez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Peck is trying to defend but Alvarez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alvarez in particular looking to stall. Peck controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Still in half guard, Alvarez seems content to control. Alvarez wants to free his trapped foot but Peck is holding on for dear life with his legs. Alvarez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Peck on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Alvarez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Peck with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Jonhson throws a nice looking combination but Johnson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Johnson steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Jonhson looks to clinch and Johnson counters with a nice body kick. Johnson moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Johnson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Jonhson misses with a takedown and Johnson counters with a big head kick but Jonhson shrugs it off. Johnson misses with a double jab.

#R1# Grip loads up on a big right hand but McQueen slips the punch. Grip looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Grip misses with a low kick. A little jabbing left from McQueen on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Grip checks a leg kick nicely. Grip looks to land a combination but McQueen avoids it well. McQueen lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Grip lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McQueen circles away quickly and effectively. McQueen stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Grip tries to clinch but McQueen moves away and Grip takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Grip throws the left hand but McQueen avoids the punch easily. McQueen throws a good cross that connects.

McQueen is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Grip had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. McQueen cracks a nice hook into Grip's ribs. McQueen fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Grip looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Grip throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McQueen sees it coming and avoids it easily. McQueen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McQueen missing with a left hand there. Grip was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McQueen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. McQueen sizes up Namless with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
