We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.#SUB# Messi has his foot on Danda's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Danda works his way back into a safe position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Danda wants to stand and escape but instead Messi has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. #REVR##SUB2# Danda has an active guard here but Messi has managed to pass into half guard.
Danda keeps control of the position for the meantime. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Danda won't allow Messi to pass to mount. Messi is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Danda tries for a takedown but Messi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Messi pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! Ibid has a closed guard, preventing Messi from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ibid wants to sweep but no luck. #T1# Ibid trying to control the position here. #R1##TD2# Messi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Barakat! Messi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Messi misses with the ground and pound. Barakat tries to buck Messi off but Messi is having none of it. Barakat is working hard here to advance position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Messi is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Barakat will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Barakat is not content to let Messi control the position. #T1# Barakat is trying to get back to half guard. Barakat is not content to let Messi control the position. Messi looking to control but instead Barakat has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Messi sitting and controlling from the half guard. Messi is keen to just control but Barakat is a slippery customer.#T2# The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Islamiya Barakat. I think Messi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

The Sock controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Pettis has momentary wrist control but The Sock slips an elbow through the middle. The Sock advances position into side control! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The Sock is working Pettis over with some ground and pound from side control. The Sock in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. #ROC2# Pettis is rocked!#CUT2# It looks like Conor Pettis has been cut. Pettis is trying to control The Sock's posture but The Sock avoids it. The Sock grinds an elbow into Pettis's temple. Oh Pettis is still in real trouble! Silva bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Pruitt's head. Silva cracks Pruitt with an open hand slap. Silva lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Silva lands with a good body shot. Pruitt takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Pruitt drops his hands momentarily and Silva takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Silva takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Silva throws a body punch but Pruitt moves out of range. A big right from Silva misses. Pruitt throws a big counter combination but Silva scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Pruitt tries to score a power double leg takedown but Silva sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pruitt somewhat. Silva circles away from the clinch attempt and Silva counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Pruitt ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. This has been an exciting period of action! Pruitt tries for a takedown but Silva sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Silva now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Silva fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Pruitt on the side of the head. Silva looks to score with a jab to the body but Pruitt is just out of range. Pruitt appears to be looking for a big counter. Pruitt tries to clinch up and Silva counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.#T3# Pruitt doesn't manage to clinch there - Silva circles away.

Silva is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Pruitt had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Pruitt misses with a takedown and Silva counters with a stiff right hand. Silva smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Silva tests Pruitt's chin there with a solid looking shot.#T4# Pruitt takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Pruitt tries for a takedown but Silva sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Silva uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pruitt has time to react. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Pruitt ducks right into an uppercut from Silva. Silva throws an overhand right that lands on Pruitt's shoulder, as Pruitt tries to avoid the shot. Pruitt tries to clinch up. Pruitt looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Pruitt avoids the body shot from Silva.

Sloppy strikes from Fields. Those never looked like landing. Jones is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Fields with a body shot. Good standup being displayed there by Jones as he connects with a hook. Jones misses the shot to the body. Fields wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
