#R1##CL2# Assada rushes Howard and presses him up against the cage.#TD2# Assada gets a trip takedown into half guard. Assada trying to control the action but Howard is working from the bottom. Howard manages to get to full guard.
Assada must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Howard tries to land a sweep but no joy. Assada really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Howard utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Howard looking for a sweep. Not yet Howard, not yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Howard keeping moving, preventing Assada from controlling successfully. Howard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.#ES# Howard has his feet on Assada's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. #CL2# Assada closes the distance and pushes Howard back into the cage.#T1# Howard crunches a lovely knee into Assada's ribcage. A short right from Howard on the inside. Assada's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Assada trying to stall but Howard improves his position.
#TD2# Assada has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Howard clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Assada tries to keep control of the position but Howard is staying busy. Howard trying to control but not successfully. Assada has the hooks in. Howard is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Howard trying to control but not successfully. Howard rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
#T2##SUB# Howard looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Assada trying to control the action but Howard is working from the bottom. Assada looks to land a strike but Howard avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Howard wants to stand but Assada is controlling the position. Howard throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Howard working a defensive guard but Assada manages to pass into side control anyway.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Howard tries to escape but Assada is in control. #T3# Howard holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. Assada trying to control the position but Howard is working away. Howard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Howard manages to get back to half guard. Howard is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Assada's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Assada's back! Howard softening up his opponent with strikes here.
Howard lands a shot to the body. Howard slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howard not allowing Assada to control his hands. #SUB# Howard has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Assada is defending well but eventually Howard manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Assada has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Tory Howard!

#R1##CL# Rodd tries to keep at a distance but Frita has taken the fight into the clinch. Rodd tries to break free but Frita pushes him back against the cage.#BC# Frita breaks from the clinch.
Frita throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Frita shoots for a double leg takedown but Rodd sprawls well. He's pushed Frita's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Rodd let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Frita throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rodd's waist but Rodd gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Frita off to one side. #CL# Frita clinches with his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#BC# Frita's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.#TD# Frita closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Rodd scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Frita manages to mount him!
#T1# Frita looking to control and managing it successfully. #SUB# Frita working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Rodd looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Frita! Submission of the night perhaps?
