Butabi lands a right hook to the body.
Butabi lands the left hand.
Smith fails with the takedown.
Butabi feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Smiths jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Smith takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Butabi is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Smith with a body shot.
Smith swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Butabi counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Smith misses with a shot to the body
and Butabi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Butabi connects with a good right hand that stumbles Smith. Smith circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Butabi scores with a jab to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Butabi as he avoids it easily.

Butabi fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Smith looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Smith swings widly with a right hand

Smith has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Butabi cracks a nice hook into Smith's ribs.
Smith takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Smith checks the leg kick nicely there.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Butabi has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Butabi has an Americana. Smith didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Butabi is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Butabi hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Steve Butabi!

Onodera blocks a leg kick.#TD#
Onodera throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Smith was covering up waiting for the punch and Onodera finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Onodera wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Onodera wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Onodera pushes down on Smith's leg and manages to get into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#SUB#
Onodera seems to be working for a kimura but Smith defends the submission attempt.
Onodera wants to free his trapped foot but Smith is holding on for dear life with his legs. #T1#
Smith is in trouble now - Onodera has advanced to mount!
Smith is trying to escape the mount but Onodera keeps good control and instead manages to take Smith's back. #SUB#
Onodera is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Smith defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#SUB#
Onodera is working for a rear naked choke. Smith is not defending it well and Onodera has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Smith refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Smith's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kazuma Onodera!
After the fight, Kazuma Onodera was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
