#R1# Chartier darts in looking for a takedown but Meiji gets double underhooks and turns Chartier into the cage. Chartier shoots in but no luck this time. The fight stays on the outside here - Meiji looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Meiji stuffs the takedown attempt from Chartier. Chartier gets slowly back to his feet. Konno Meiji has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Geno Chartier. Meiji tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chartier swivels and escapes. Meiji throws out a loose jab but Chartier uses good head movement to avoid it. Meiji with a lazy takedown attempt #TD2# and Chartier counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Meiji! Meiji manages to get back to half guard. Meiji moves into full guard.
Chartier working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Meiji's head.#SUB# Meiji escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chartier gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. #SUB2# Chartier drops back looking for a leg! Meiji is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Meiji manages to kick Chartier off! Chartier jumps back into Meiji's guard. #T1# Chartier won't allow Meiji to sweep him here. Meiji is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Chartier postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Chartier pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Meiji is keeping the position for now. Chartier is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Chartier must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.#T2# The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.#SUB# Meiji has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chartier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Chartier is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Horrible takedown attempt by Chartier or perhaps it was just good defense by Meiji, which made it look bad. Meiji thinks about countering with a body kick. Meiji really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.#T3# Meiji shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chartier sprawls well. Chartier wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Meiji gets slowly back to his feet. It seemed like Chartier was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.#TD2# Chartier throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Meiji was covering up waiting for the punch and Chartier finishes the takedown easily into guard. Meiji is breathing heavily. Meiji looking for a sweep. Not yet Meiji, not yet. Meiji can't keep his opponent in guard - Chartier advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. #SUB2# Chartier is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Meiji throws a head kick that misses #TD2# and Chartier counters with a takedown into side control. #SUB2# Chartier is trying to get an arm triangle but Meiji is defending well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Meiji is not in a great position here, taking some shots. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Chartier scoring with punches from side control. Chartier is putting a hurting on Meiji here, landing some big shots from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Geno Chartier dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. #R2# Chartier shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Meiji as he jumps to the side. #TD2# Chartier bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.#SU2# Chartier stands up. Meiji fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Chartier misses with a takedown attempt - Meiji sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Meiji appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Chartier thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Meiji if he has to take too many more of those.
Chartier has been the more effective fighter overall so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chartier tries for a takedown but Meiji sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Konno Meiji has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Geno Chartier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Meiji keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Chartier defending well as Meiji loads up on a big left hand. Chartier closes the distance and clinches up with Meiji, looking for a takedown. Chartier pushes Meiji against the cage but Meiji circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Konno Meiji is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Chartier stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Chartier wants it to stay on the feet. Chartier tries a head kick but it misses.

Meiji is trying to control Chartier's posture but Chartier avoids it. Meiji is positioning himself to get back to half guard. #T4# Meiji wants to control but Chartier postures up. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action!#SUB2# Chartier is working for a kimura but Meiji is defending it quite comfortably.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Konno Meiji. I think Chartier has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
