#R1# No luck with that takedown attempt from Cormier. Read keeps the fight on the outside. Cormier tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Read manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Cormier misses with a takedown attempt - Read sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Read lands an overhand right. Cormier drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cormier misses with a takedown attempt and Read makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Cormier. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cormier avoids the body shot from Read.

It seemed like Read was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
