King goes for a takedown attempt but Montes pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that King has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. King on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Montes. Montes obviously looking to wear him down.
#TD# Montes feints and as King raises his hands in defense, Montes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Montes is looking to pass into half guard but King pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now King is in guard.#REVB# Montes trying to strike off his back.
King engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. King working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. #T1# King is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Montes wants to stand but King is controlling the position. King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Montes swivels though and keeps the full guard. Montes is trying to maintain the position but King is very close to passing his half guard. Montes is doing well to avoid being mounted. Montes tries for a takedown but Barlow sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Lou Barlow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nikolas Montes. Barlow tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Montes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Montes shoots in for a double leg but Barlow sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Barlow throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Montes misses with a takedown attempt and Barlow counters with a stiff right hand.
