A decent looking cross lands there for Barnes. Barnes lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. The fighters circling - Jempsa throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Barnes was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Barnes has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Barnes misses with a low kick as Jempsa jumps back. Jempsa misses with a jab to the body
and Barnes counters with a leg kick. Barnes stuffs the takedown.#TD# Jempsa tries to sprawl but Barnes drives through with a takedown into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. An attempted straight right counter from Route misses the target. A telegraphed right hand from Backman misses the target. Backman connects with a leg kick. Route has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Cloud9 in the buildup to the fight. Route displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Backman throws out the jab. Route tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Backman drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Backman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Route takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

It looked like Salamanca wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. A jab lands there for Salamanca. Salamanca paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Jakua blocks a leg kick. Jakua doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Jempsa throwing strikes but missing. Jempsa is stalling in the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jempsa wants to control from the top but Tepes Iii keeps moving. We've been hearing that Jempsa has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.#T1# Tepes Iii preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
