Farrell is looking to counter the offense by Masvidal and move into the clinch. Masvidal fails to land with a series of punches.
#TD2# Masvidal shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Farrell napping and manages to drive through into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Farrell wants to control but Masvidal postures up. Who's going to make the next move?#SU2# Masvidal decides to stand back up. Masvidal steps back and let's Farrell get back to his feet.#TD2# Masvidal drives through with a takedown into guard. Farrell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Masvidal tries to stand but Farrell is controlling from the bottom. Masvidal is in close to Farrell's body, working some short punches and elbows. Farrell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.#T1# Masvidal wanted to stand there but Farrell had control of the position. Masvidal is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. #R2##TD# Farrell feints and as Masvidal raises his hands in defense, Farrell changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Farrell scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Masvidal is looking to stand up but Farrell isn't so interested in that idea. #SUB# Farrell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Farrell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Farrell cracks Masvidal with a solid left hand. Masvidal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Farrell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.#SU# Farrell gets to his feet - Masvidal follows without any prompting. Masvidal tries to bum rush Farrell with a series of wild strikes but Farrell uses good footwork to avoid the assault. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Farrell blocks a head kick by Masvidal .
Masvidal lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Farrell circles away quickly and effectively. Farrell throws a big counter combination but Masvidal scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Masvidal throws a looping overhand right but Farrell ducks down to avoid it. Farrell seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Masvidal is breathing heavily. Farrell on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Masvidal was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! #R1# Diaz throws a right and a left that both miss. Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Padilla's waist but Padilla gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side. Padilla displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diaz. #CL# Padilla instigates a clinch. Padilla is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
