#R1##TD2# Varleansavage looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Varleansavage working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Oumardipov flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Johnson throws an overhand right that lands on Rivera's shoulder, as Rivera tries to avoid the shot. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rivera throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Johnson tries to clinch up.#TD2# Rivera feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Rivera changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Rivera scoring with some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#T3# Johnson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Rivera must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Rivera might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Johnson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
