Swanson trying to control the action but Herb is working from the bottom. Herb taking some punishment here, with Swanson in his half guard. Swanson trying to control from half guard but Herb is working away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Herb is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Swanson scores with a couple of nice shots. We've been hearing good reports from Swanson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.#SUB# Swanson is looking for a kimura here.

#R1# Garcia misses with a takedown attempt and Kurtt counters with a right hand to the body. #TD2# Kurtt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Garcia is wriggling around but Kurtt manages to pass to half guard.
#REVR# We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Kurtt thows a huge punch but Garcia dodges it nicely.

That's going to sap some energy.#CL2# Kurtt forces Garcia back against the cage and clinches. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Garcia tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
And that's the end of the fight! Mert Kurtt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Kurtt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

#R1# Herb ducks under a wild hook from Aspinall. Herb tries a head kick but it misses.
Aspinall misses with a looping right. Aspinall fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Herb looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Herb fails in his attempt to clinch. Aspinall lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Herb at a distance.
Herb looks winded! Aspinall cracks Herb with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Herb tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Aspinall pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Herb is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cam Aspinall! An out of breath Cam Aspinall thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. |
