Welcome back sports fans, we've had a great couple of months at Contenders and thanks to Butch we've had our first ever rankings. Today we will dive back into those with some updates and also a quick survey around what else is happening around the org.
Card Results - Draws draw crowds! Nitro dethroned! Nyla stops the Pablo onslaught! Dye amping up the competition!
At the time of writing, DC has seen a whopping FOUR draws across two of our cards (out of the last three). One of these were the cheeky 185ers Attilio De Fiore and Sonny Corleone Jnr who proceeded to have their SECOND draw in a row (the first being a separate 5th draw unrelated to these two cards). On top of that, we had our first title fight ending in a draw with inaugural champ Jan Sokol doing just enough to retain his belt in a grapple fest with Frank Dux. Idea became legend, as SM Fight-Liiga in Helsinki crowned its first champions in the organization, marking the beginning of a red hot trail of fights leading for the upstart organization.
In the event, Lightweight fighter Malig Hunt dominated through 5 round to take away the inaugural title by unanimous decision, with most judges awarding all rounds to new champion Malig Hunt. Hunt cannot sit around, though, as the lightweight division certainly took notice of the new head of the table.
In Welterweight news, Jake Shields showed his dominance by wearing down Jay Read in his championship fight, eventually submitting to a brilliantly placed rear-naked choke in the fourth round.
Overall, it was battle cry from the first areas of the organization of dominance - the lines have been drawn, and the blood has been spilled.
