Event Preview: NFC 138 Tolonen vs Pain
Nordic Fire Championship

The Nordic Fire Championship will be live on March 10th, 2012 from Suomi International for NFC 138: Tolonen vs. Pain. Helsinki, Finland is the location as this event, which you can see live via pay-per-view (contact your local provider for further info) features ten fights between the best mixed martial artists in the world. It's all headlined with a clash between the #1 and #2 Super Heavyweight fighters in the world.

The main card will begin with a welterweight bout between "The Farmboy" Ratt Hughes (25-11-0) and James Kirk (13-5-0). A veteran to the sport with more than 30 fights to his name at the age of 29, Ratt Hughes is an ADCC champion grappler who has just avenged his loss to Eric Cartman at NFC 135. He faces a stiff test in Kirk, whose recent record surely belies his ability. A black belt Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitor, Kirk ran roughshod over NFC Challengers and won three straight in the NFC for his first bouts, capturing the welterweight championship in the process. Since then, three straight losses have stunted the 24-year old's momentum, but James Kirk is always a threat.

In the lightweight division, Santeri Norzu (22-8-1) faces Glasgow nativie Osgar "Blunt Force Trauma" MacGregor (16-6-0) in further action. Having rectified his draw with Sinuhe Egyptian at NFC 130 with a onesided decision victory in the rematch, the heavy-handed Santei Norzu hopes to reinsert himself into title contention at 155. The 27-year old already has 15 (T)KOs to his name, but he will have his hands full with Scotland's own Osgar MacGregor. A powerful boxer who leaves everything in the cage, MacGregor has endeared himself into the hearts of the NFC fans for his wild, slug-it-out style. Not one of his NFC bouts have gone to decision, win or lose.

The evening continues with two light heavyweight bouts. The first of which features Simon Adebisi (20-6-0) fighting "Son Goku" Sun Wukong (19-5-0). Only 28 yet possessing over 25 fights, Abedisi- the former #1 in the world at 205- is a former champion looking to get right back into the title hunt after a loss. A sensational boxer with an endless gas tank, Abedisi is currently the holder of most submissions at light heavyweight on the NFC roster. Sun Wukong is a fighter, meanwhile, with no shortage of dangerous weapons. All of his NFC victories have been by TKO or KO, and the man has gone to decision only seven times in his career. Looking to build off of his third round knockout of Urho Itaniemi, Wukong aims to put himself back in the title picture.

That title picture features NFC Champion Gristle McThornbody (26-4-0) facing Vicious Fights champion Pekka "Teufel" Perkele (23-9-0) in a promotional superfight between the #1 and #2 promotions in Finland. Having won all of his Nordic Fire Championship appearances, McThornbody looks to further his rampage at 205. Having never lost a fight by decision, it's surely kill-or-be-killed for McThornbody, yet Pekka Perkele will not be an easy opponent. During his career, Perkele has earned a reputation as a bonus hunter- with 6 fights of the night and 4 KOs of the night under his belt, the man who first appeared in NFC way back at NFC 12 returns after losing only once in seven Vicious appearances. This is only the co-main event- expect fireworks.

The main event features another superfight between two legends of the sport- Iiro "The Man" Tolonen (31-8-0) faces Starship Pain (29-6-1) in a Superheavyweight bout between the champions of the Nordic Fire Championship and the Beserkers Champions League. In 15 appearances in the NFC, promotional hall-of-famer Tolonen has only lost once, and currently rides  a seven-fight win streak dating back to October of the previous year. A world class boxer that is seemingly elite or better in every category across the board, the man with 24 (T)KOs to his name faces his toughest test yet in the man who looks to usurp him in the 265+ rankings- Starship Pain. A BJJ black belt who has never been submitted in his career, Pain is on a winning streak of his own- having racked up 8 straight finishes over his BCL competition, the ADCC champion with knockout power looks to etch his name in the echelon of legends with a victory over one of the best in the sport today.

Only 3 months in to the year and we've got multiple fight of the year contenders on one card- this is an event you cannot afford to miss.

Bouts on the undercard include:
Pedro Pedofiili vs. Rolf Thorkildsen
AJ Texeira vs. Jan Puman
Kristof Nikitin vs. Goran Persson
Doc Chillum vs. Urho Itaniemi
Frank Andersson vs. Seppo Taalasmaa
