 February 19th Mid-month Recap
The first half of February was an exciting month! We had our debut of our midget grappling league finishing round one with some great results. We have also now been experiencing weekly title fights and fights for #1 contenders in the weight class.
MMA Hype Promotions has exceeded our goal roster numbers and is not actively recruiting. However, we are accepting applications and if you have an 18 year old creation with an ID of 406k or higher, please send Jay Lawrence or James Listerman a message. We offer competitive contracts and we are only getting better!
The MMA Hype Promotions Midget league goal roster is 20 midgets. We are currently at 19 midgets. If you would like to fill the last slot, please send Jay Lawrence or James Listerman a message. Our (150cm, 18yr old) midgets fight weekly on Sundays with grappling rules in the 135lb division. Due to this being grappling rules, there is no affect on energy or manager ranking. Its just fun & free money!
For the record books:
August Cooke, Tristan Lawrence and Zachariah Osborne currently sit at 5-0, leading the way in wins within the organization. August Cooke (155lb) and Zachariah Osborne (170lb) are both holding titles in their divisions, while Tristan takes a hiatus from the MMA world to travel with the Midget Grappling league to bolster their attendance.
Francisco Garcia currently ranks as the top p4p fighter in MMA Hype. The current featherweight champion is 4-0 inside MMA Hype and 6-0 overall.
The Money:
To date, $643,000.00 has been paid to fighters in award money and $5,100,000.00 has been paid in contracted money (not including signing bonuses). We are still leading the 406k+ in contract value with our base pay of 5/5/5 contracts and we are getting closer to breaking even, but still losing about $50k per event.
The Midgets:
Round 1 of the midget tournament of champions is complete. We saw Macallan, Dredd, Koks, Grubbins, Twist, Jackson, Crewe and Short move onto round 2. Those who did not win their debut matches will begin fighting it out for title contention ranking. Midgets will be fighting every Sunday night for your entertainment!
Submission of the night for the midget event went to Spud Grubbins, but Diminutive Jackson was a close second. Grubbins scored an immediate takedown into guard/half-guard, grabbed a leg and locked in a kneebar. Magomedov was tasting the mat tapping out before he realized the fight started.
Diminutive Jackson took a different approach. A counter of Big Guy's takedown attempt and Diminutive Jackson was able to grab an arm and lockin a quick Kimura. Big Guy was tapping out before his body even hit the mat.
Midgets fight against next Sunday with Diminutive Jackson facing the favorite to win the championship, Jack Dredd (managed by grappling legend @chuckw94). Grubbins will go on to face Olaf Koks who was also able to secure an early submission in his debut. Next Sunday looks to be a great competition in the Midget tournament!
MMA Hype Promotions MMA Highlights
Zachariah Osborne stunned the MMA world when he knocked out the favorite to win, Bryan Garcia in the 170lb title fight on February 1st. Just 49 seconds into the fight, Osborne connected with a jab and uppercut combo sending Garcia to the floor like a duvet cover on a hot night. Garcia was the more skilled and slightly older fighter who received 100% of the bets to win the fight, but never saw a second round. Osborne will be defending his title against Garcia's teammate and undefeated fighter, Aydin Parks.
Kurt Lemon also cleaned Clay Hancock's clock with a series of punches causing Hancock to fold in half and stare at his own cock. Kurt Lemon's victory secured the first spot in the featherweight title contention and Lemon (4-0) will be facing the highly skilled, Fransisco Garcia (6-0) in March.
Jude Donovan was one of many additions since the fallout of Conquest. Donovan joined us on the 5th of February and debuted with a main event fight against undefeated Hector Wallace (The #1 contender). Wallace was not able to keep it together and Donovan continues his undefeated record. Donovan's win overtook the position as the #1 contender and Donovan will be facing Isaiah Dawson on February 22nd to compete for the title.
Armando Greenlaw (managed by current #1 manager, Action Jackson) continues to tear through the MMA Hype roster in the 205 class. Greenlaw defeated light heavyweight champion Dante Drayman, to overtake the title. The fight was concerning at first as Drayman had full control over every aspect of the fight, but a cut to Drayman's face and a beautiful counter right hook by Greenlaw caused a quick turn in the fight and Greenlaw is now the MMA Hype light heavyweight champion. Greenlaw will be defending his title against Nathan Sanford in March and Greenlaw is the heavy favorite to win the bout.
August Cooke (6-0) continued his strategic ways on February 8th and he took down @listerman's very own fighter, Bryson Whitehead, to defend Cooke's title. The fight went the distance and Cooke has proven his chin now against several heavy hitters. But! Cooke will now be going on to defend his title against submission artist, Cartier Buffs (7-1) on March 8th.
George Wilder overcame the odds against him while fighting Joel Franklin for the heavyweight #1 contender slot. A very close fight that looked to be going in Franklin's ended just before the final bell as a cut to Franklin's eye became to bearable for the referee. With the victory Wilder secured his position as the #1 contender for the heavyweight title and will fight the victor of Ferreira and Crusher after their fight in March. Unfortunately, Joel Franklin's manager cut their contract early and Franklin is now on the free agency.
Roger Sack Dominated his fight over Gromoboy Surovij. A spinning backfist after a leg kick had Surovij wishing he was at home playing on an Xbox controller instead. Sack finished his MMA Hype career with a record of 4-1 (only loss to current champion August Cooke). Sack has now moved on to pursue a kickboxing career at Sunrise FC. We wish Sack the best on his new journey and we're happy to see he is now the highest ranked p4p fighter in the 145lb class at Sunrise FC.
Francisco Garcia (6-0) has been nothing but amazing so far in his MMA Hype career, but his title defense on February 15th may have been challenge of any kind in the cage. All previous fights, Garcia was able to finish his opponents in the first round, and usually within the first minute. But Geordi La Forge was not going to rollover and tap. La Forge was unable to match Garcia's cat like reflexes and failed to land a single punch. At the ring of the second round, the crowd expected La Forge to stay on his feet a little longer, but the fight quickly went back to the mats. Forge wormed his way around and was able to get out out of 6 submission attempts and he countered almost everything Garcia did on the ground. However, in an attempt to move to half guard, La Forge exposed his arm. Garcia latched onto the arm like it was a 2-yr old child in a gorilla pen. La Forge was not going to get his arm away from Garcia and to avoid losing his arm, La Forge quickly tapped the canvas. Garcia became the new 145lb champion!
