The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
James with a lazy takedown attempt
and Steele counters with a nice uppercut.
Decent striking displayed by Steele there.
Good exchange - Steele coming out on top.
James goes for a double leg but Steele avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Steele continues to drive forward.
James ducks under a wild hook from Steele.
Steele loads up on a big right hand but James slips the punch.
James half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Steele defends well and James ends up having to push Steele into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justice James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Steele lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Steele's coach down at Chris Leben KO Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Steele's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

and Steele counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Steele really doesn't want to stay on the ground with James. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shake slaps away a takedown attempt from McHeartney, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McHeartney.
As McHeartney tries to get set, Shake tries to push him back and clinch up but McHeartney manages to avoid the attempt.
Shake connects with a crisp jab.

McHeartney gets a double leg takedown into Shake's guard.

Shake has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the ropes to get back to his feet. McHeartney has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the ropes.

McHeartney has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Shake uses from the top position.

Froelich Jr looks to land a left hand but Whelan moved out of range nicely.

Whelan gets caught napping as Froelich Jr dives in and scores a takedown. Whelan manages to retain guard.
Froelich Jr is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Whelan pushes Froelich Jr off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Whelan swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Whelan cracks Froelich Jr with a hook to the temple - Froelich Jr is on wobbly legs here! Whelan swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Froelich Jr falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Whelan wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Sean Whelan!
After the fight, Sean Whelan was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

He's locked it up tight! Kadyrev's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Wusky picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
