Undercard bout

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Billy Jack (ranked 7933 p4p, 655 weight class) and Phillip Baroni (ranked 7698 p4p, 646 weight class). Jack comes to the cage accompanied by The Legend of Billy Jack. Phillip Baroni told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baroni gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Jack.
Baroni has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Nice straight punches there by Baroni. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Baroni.
Baroni throws a lazy right hand but Jack sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Baroni will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Baroni looks to throw the jab but Jack is out of range.
A shot to the liver by Jack. Beautiful body shot.
Jack uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Baroni.
Jack is looking to counter the offense by Baroni and move into the clinch.

Jack closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Baroni to the mat! Baroni manages to get full guard.
Baroni wants to stand up but Jack is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baroni is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Baroni can do anything to dispel that myth.

Madden throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Luther gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Madden to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Luther wants to stand but Madden is controlling the position.
Madden advances position into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Luther is trying to buck Madden off.
Madden scores with a couple of short elbows.

Luther bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Madden closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The referee asks Madden politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Madden prefers to stall for the moment though.
Luther knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Madden on the ground.
Let's hope that Madden has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Luther is working to avoid the ground and pound but Madden connects with a decent elbow.

It looks like Wladimir Yaroslev has been cut.
Muslim connects with a jab.
Yaroslev throws a push kick but Muslim slaps the foot to one side.
Yaroslev takes a swing at Muslim's ribcage but misses.
Yaroslev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Muslim sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yaroslev somewhat.
Yaroslev fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yaroslev wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Muslim darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Muslim throws a big shot that misses.

Yaroslev fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Muslim manages to avoid it.

Mongolian Muslim is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Yaroslev definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

and Muslim counters with a crisp right hand that drops Yaroslev! Muslim lets Yaroslev back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Muslim lands with a nice body punch.
Muslim throws an overhand right that lands on Yaroslev's shoulder, as Yaroslev tries to avoid the shot.
Yaroslev tries to counter with a takedown but Muslim is quick to defend against it.

Muslim feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Yaroslev sprawling to the canvas! Yaroslev rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Muslim finish him?!

Yaroslev is rocked!

Wladimir Yaroslev's cut is getting worse.
Muslim connects with a body shot that sends Yaroslev's belly button to the back.
Yaroslev is breathing heavily.
Yaroslev gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Muslim points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Yaroslev wakes up just in time to hear Muslim thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mongolian Muslim!

Wladimir Yaroslev spoke after the fight, saying 'I'm so pissed at myself right now. I should have been able to beat him. I guess I go back and try to do better next time.'.
