Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kumo LaRusso!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenji Watanabe!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watanabe avoids the body shot from LaRusso.
No joy there for LaRusso, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
LaRusso misses the shot to the body.
Kumo LaRusso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
LaRusso uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Watanabe with a poor takedown
and LaRusso counters with a nice uppercut.

LaRusso closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Watanabe has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by LaRusso after a bit of a struggle.
LaRusso stops a takedown attempt from Watanabe.
Kumo LaRusso has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenji Watanabe.
Watanabe blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
LaRusso makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
A shot in the inside from LaRusso.
LaRusso lands a left hand.
Watanabe is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Watanabe takes a shot to the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
LaRusso is working Watanabe over against the cage.
Watanabe drops down looking for an ankle pick but LaRusso pulls his leg out and moves away.
Watanabe takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

That's one minute gone in the round.
LaRusso connects with a good right hand that stumbles Watanabe. Watanabe circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
LaRusso thows a left - swing and a miss!
And Watanabe tries to counter it with a takedown but LaRusso pushes his down on his head and steps out.
LaRusso tests Watanabe's chin there with a solid looking shot.
LaRusso scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Watanabe doesn't seem bothered though.
Nice jab there from LaRusso.
LaRusso listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
LaRusso cracks Watanabe with a good jab.
LaRusso throws a lazy uppercut

and Watanabe counters with a nice double leg into side control. LaRusso won't be happy with that.
LaRusso knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Watanabe on the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Watanabe cracks LaRusso with a big right hand but LaRusso just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
LaRusso is looking to regain half guard here but Watanabe keeps moving and retains side control.
LaRusso taking punishment in the form of punches.

Watanabe lands some shots froms side control.
LaRusso looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Watanabe wants to control but LaRusso is keeping him busy.
LaRusso takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.


LaRusso is rocked!
Watanabe in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and LaRusso looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Watanabe turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kenji Watanabe! Kenji Watanabe retains his welterweight title!
An out of breath Kenji Watanabe thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Kumo LaRusso spoke after the fight, saying 'All I have to say is damn he needs to shower and honestly I will take the loss just because I am able to get away from his stink ass and get a shower before the smell makes me throw up'.
