PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve McDoughe (ranked 9192 p4p, 848 weight class) and Nevil Hawk (ranked 24798 p4p, 937 weight class). Hawk has chosen Ruleta as his entrance music. Nevil Hawk is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve McDoughe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nevil Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McDoughe closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hawk misses with some punches.

Hawk manages to break the clinch.
McDoughe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hawk.
McDoughe definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
McDoughe's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hawk connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! McDoughe scrambles back to his feet.
Hawk throws a hook but McDoughe blocks it.
Hawk cracks McDoughe with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

McDoughe gets in close and instigates a clinch.
McDoughe wants a takedown but no success here.

Hawk breaks from the clinch.

McDoughe looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Hawk!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McDoughe working the head with strikes.
McDoughe looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Hawk is avoiding damage well.
Hawk tries to escape but McDoughe is in control.

McDoughe tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McDoughe has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hawk pushes McDoughe away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, McDoughe gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McDoughe is working Hawk over with some ground and pound from side control.
McDoughe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawk avoids any damage from the ground and pound of McDoughe.
McDoughe creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.


Hawk is rocked!

McDoughe tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McDoughe has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McDoughe tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hawk takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Hawk is still in real trouble! Can McDoughe finish him?
Hawk is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but McDoughe has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Hawk seems to have recovered his senses.
Hawk stops McDoughe from passing to mount.
McDoughe trying to control the action but Hawk is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McDoughe prevents Hawk from escaping the position.
McDoughe misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hawk can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hawk is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McDoughe is controlling him well.
Hawk is not content to let McDoughe control the position.
Hawk takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
McDoughe grinds an elbow into Hawk's temple.
McDoughe lands a strong strike to the head of Hawk. That's dazed him! McDoughe looking to finish here. Hawk is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - McDoughe lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve McDoughe!
Steve McDoughe tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
