PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dan Sudo (ranked 2300 p4p, 245 weight class) and Long Wang (ranked 1249 p4p, 135 weight class). Long Wang told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dan Sudo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Long Wang!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sudo tries to sprawl but Wang drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Wang stalling away here and it's allowed Sudo to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Wang pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sudo is keeping the position for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sudo wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sudo is on top in guard.

Wang bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Sudo is striking from the bottom but Wang uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wang winds up and cracks Sudo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Wang has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Wang is keen to just control but Sudo is a slippery customer.

Sudo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sudo has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Wang has passed into side control.
Wang throws a strike aimed at the side of Sudo's head but Sudo avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Long Wang dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sudo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Wang cracks Sudo with a right hand to the side of the head.
Wang slaps away a takedown attempt from Sudo, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sudo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wang did well to prevent Sudo getting side control.

Wang has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sudo keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wang's head.

Wang is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sudo is aware though and is defending well.
Wang wants to control the position but Sudo says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Sudo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Sudo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wang on the ground.

Sudo is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Wang gets his way!
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Wang. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Wang gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Sudo tries to escape but Wang has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Wang has his arm under Sudo's chin here. Game over son! Wang squeezes tightly and Sudo is forced to tap out!
